You're Not Just Raising a Child—You're Navigating a System. Parent Support and Advocacy: Helping Families Find a Path Forward
You Don't Have to Figure It Out Alone
If you're parenting a child with behavioral challenges, ADHD, Autism, learning differences, or other neurodivergent needs, you've probably discovered something frustrating:
The hardest part isn't always helping your child, it's figuring out what you're supposed to do next.
You ask yourself questions like:
Should you request an evaluation?
Do you need a PPT meeting?
What accommodations should your child have?
Do they qualify for an IEP or a 504 Plan?
What services are available?
How much is all of this going to cost?
Will it actually help my child?
How do you advocate for your child without feeling like you're constantly fighting the school system?
And perhaps the biggest question of all:
Why does it feel like everyone expects you to know the answers when nobody has actually explained the process?
The truth is, many parents find themselves overwhelmed, confused, and emotionally exhausted trying to navigate a system they were never taught to understand.
So they hire me…for all of their parenting needs. From pointing them in a direction, to parenting skills and communication skills, to changing their children’s behavior issues, to advocating for their child to get services and support. I help families from start to finish.
When parents feel empowered, children benefit…and that’s the goal!
Behavior Is Communication
Let's talk about behavior for a minute - my favorite topic!
As a former Special Ed teacher, Invention Specialist, Registered Behavior Therapist working with children who have ADHD, Autism and behavioral issues, I’ve seen it all!
Many children are labeled as "difficult," "defiant," "lazy," "unmotivated," or "attention-seeking."
The reality is that behavior is communication.
Children communicate through behavior when they don't yet have the skills, language, emotional regulation, or support to communicate another way.
When a child is struggling at home or school, I don't immediately ask, "How do we stop the behavior?"
I ask, "What is this behavior trying to tell us?"
Why?
Because underneath challenging behaviors, there's often something else happening:
Anxiety
Frustration
Sensory overwhelm
Executive functioning challenges
Difficulty with transitions
Social struggles
Communication barriers
Unmet needs
When we understand the why, we can create more effective solutions.
Supporting Children with ADHD/Autism and Neurodivergence
Children with ADHD and Autism are often incredibly bright, creative, energetic and capable, but also VERY MISUNDERSTOOD.
The biggest misconception is that people believe that it’s a motivation issue, when it’s actually a regulation issue.
READ THAT AGAIN!
ADHD and Autism impact:
Attention
Organization
Emotional regulation
Impulse control
Task completion
School performance
Family dynamics
Neurodivergent children experience and process the world DIFFERENTLY…not wrong, not broken, just different. Their brain is literally wired differently.
GOOGLE A PICTURE OF HOW THE BRAIN LOOKS DIFFERENT…go ahead, I’ll wait….
……isn’t it wild!
NOW YOU KNOW! I hope that gives you a little perspective.
Many neurodivergent children face challenges that others don't immediately see, including:
Sensory sensitivities
Social communication differences
Emotional regulation struggles
Executive functioning difficulties
School-related stress
Anxiety
Burnout
I work with families to better understand their child's unique strengths and challenges while helping them access appropriate support systems and accommodations.
The goal is not to force children to fit into a box they were never meant to fit into…it’s to help them thrive as themselves.
Why Advocacy Matters
Many parents walk into school meetings feeling intimidated, overwhelmed, or unsure of what questions to ask.
I help families prepare for and navigate:
PPT meetings
IEP meetings
School evaluations
Eligibility discussions
Accommodation planning
Behavioral support planning
Service recommendations
I help parents understand the process, organize their concerns, identify priorities, and advocate confidently for their child's needs.
Because it's difficult to advocate when you're overwhelmed and don't know what options are available.
HOW I GET S**T DONE?
Easy - My approach focuses on creating collaboration.
When families and schools work together, children have a much greater chance of success.
That means helping identify:
Practical strategies
Consistent supports
Effective communication systems
Realistic expectations
Individualized accommodations
Long-term goals
Because success isn't about perfection or being “normal” (we are all a little f***ed up if you ask me)…success is about progress.
Sometimes Parents Don't Need More Information—They Need a Roadmap because they feel stuck, something isn’t working, their child is struggling and they don’t know where to begin.
Sometimes my role is:
Helping families understand their child and their different brain
Teaching families about educational processes and preparing for meetings
Identifying resources and services.
Helping them create a clear plan so they can stop feeling lost.
Parenting a child with behavioral challenges, ADHD, autism, or other neurodivergent needs can feel overwhelming at times.
I want families to feel supported, parents to feel confident, and most importantly, I want children to have the tools, accommodations, understanding, and support they need to succeed.
Not just academically, but emotionally, mentally, and socially.
You don't have to navigate it alone.
At Simple Life Coaching LLC, I provide parent support and advocacy guidance to help families better understand their child's needs, access appropriate resources, navigate educational systems, and create a clear path forward.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to reach their potential, and every parent deserves someone in their corner. Sometimes the most powerful thing a family can have is someone walking beside them while they figure out the next step.
